William Roberts, native of Kings Park New York, made his professional debut with Opera Carolina singingBasilio in Il barbiere di Sivigliaand Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro in the 2008-2009 season. Reviewed as a “larger than life and self assured performer” (Cape Cod Times), William has tackled a wide variety of roles in opera, operetta, and music theatre.

Mr. Roberts has been a Studio Artist with Sarasota Opera since 2012; he has sung the Usciere in Rigoletto and the Herald in Jérusalem. William has also covered Count Ceprano in Rigoletto, BaroneKelbar in Un Giorno di Regno, Frank in Die fledermause, Bartolo in Il barbiere di SivigliaandDaland in Der fliegendeholländer. In the 2014-2015 season at Sarasota Opera, Mr. Roberts will sing Gandalf in The Hobbit and General Polkan in The Golden Cockerel. William was recently scene performing with Opera Circle in Cleveland singing Frank in Die tote stadtand Bartolo in Ilbarbiere di Siviglia. Mr. Roberts spent three seasons from 2009 to 2012 with the Tri Cities Opera in Binghamton New York. William performed the title role in Le nozze di Figaro, The Father in Hansel and Gretel, A Sacristan in Tosca, the title role in Gianni Schicchi,Dulcamara in L’elisird’amore, Don Alfonso in Cosí fan tutte,Dottore Grenville in La Traviata, The Four Villains in Les Contesd’Hoffman, Il Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, all with Tri Cities Opera. William was an Apprentice Artist with Chautauqua Opera in 2011 singing the Speaker in The Magic Flute, and covering Count Walter in Luisa Miller. The previous summer, Mr. Roberts was an Apprentice Artist with Lake George Opera singing The Maestro in Viva la mamma.

Mr. Roberts was featured as the title role in Boston Opera Collaborative’s staging of Don Giovanni. A frequent performer throughout the greater Boston area in 2006-2008;William has been seen in the roles of Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, Dr. Gregg in Douglas Moore’s Gallantry, Dulcamara in L’elisird’amore, Collatinus in The Rape of Lucretia, and Reverend Hale in The Crucible. William earned his Master’s Degree in Opera from The Boston Conservatory in May of 2008. Also a performer of operetta, William completed two consecutive seasons and eighteen different musicals/operettas with The College Light Opera Company in Cape Cod. Favorite roles over these past two seasons include Pooh Bah in the The Mikado, Dick Deadeye in HMS Pinafore, Etienne Grandet in Naughty Marrietta, and Cosmo Constantine in Call Me Madam. In 2009, Mr. Roberts was asked to return to College Light Opera Company as a guest artist to sing Tony Esposito in The Most Happy Fella. William received his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from Illinois Wesleyan University in 2006. Operatic opportunities at the university included Olin Blitch in Susannah, the title role in Gianni Schicchi, and DrFalke in Die Fledermaus. 

Mr. Roberts’ featured solo work includes the Bass Soloist in Schubert’s Mass in G and Mass in E flat, Fauré’sRequiem, Handel’s Messiah, Hayden’s Creation Mass, and Maciejewski’s Requiem.
