Mr. Gordon made his debut with Sarasota Opera as Scenic Designer of the 1995 production of Maskarade and has returned every season since. Most recently he created the settings for Rigoletto and the remount of Così fan tutte in 2008, Madama Butterfly (2007),  La bohème (2006), Die Fledermaus (2003, remounted 2006), Don Giovanni, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci (2005), Tosca and Werther (2004), Macbeth and Così fan tutte (2002), Falstaff and Hänsel und Gretel (2001) and Der fliegende Holländer (2000).

He has worked on and Off-Broadway and has designed over 250 productions for opera companies and regional theatres in this country and abroad, including The Consul for Arizona Opera, A Little Night Music for Goodspeed Opera House and Die Zauberflöte for Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. He is the recipient of three Barrymore Awards and the Elliot Norton Award for Outstanding Scenic design.
