Gustavo López Manzitti made his Sarasota Opera debut in the title role of Don Carlos in 2009. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the past several years, he has been lead tenor at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, performing such roles as Albazar in Il Turco in Italia, The Duke in Rigoletto (also with Opera Delaware), Jimmy Mahoney in Mahagonny, Gabrielle Adorno in Simon Boccanegra, Maldoror in Los Cantos de Maldoror, Renaud in Armide, Don José in Carmen (also with L’Opéra de Quebec), Fernando in Dona Francisquita, and Arvino in I Lombardi. Mr. Manzitti has also performed Rodolfo in La bohème, Manrico in Il trovatore, and Alfredo in La traviata for the Teatro Argentino of La Plata; the title roles in Werther and Ernani; Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur for the Teatro Avenida of Buenos Aires and Tito in La Clemenza di Tito for the Auditorium of Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
Recent and upcoming performances in the United States include Manrico in Il trovatore and Turiddu and Canio in the double-bill of Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci for Virginia Opera; Don José in Carmen for Opera Delaware; The Duke in Rigoletto and Cavaradossi in Tosca for the Atlantic Coast Opera Festival; Cavaradossi for the Sacramento Opera and Carlo VII in Giovanna d’Arco in Carnegie Hall, New York.
