Sarasota Youth Opera (SYO) holds open Infomation Sessions in August, January, and May. This is not an audition - all interested singers are accepted, regardless of skill level.
How much does it cost?
Tuition is $150 for each semester with a $25 enrollment fee due at the time of registration. Once the applicant enrolls, the deposit is applied towards tution. There is also an additional $25 refundable uniform deposit. Tuition covers all other materials for the program, but does not cover the cost of any regional or international tours.
Can I apply for tuition assistance?
The Sarasota Youth Opera provides tuition assistance to families in need. Roughly 33% of families apply for and recieve some amount of assistance. Applications are made available at all information sessions or can be obtained from the Youth Opera & Outreach Coordinator.
What happens at the Information Sessions?
The evening includes a short meeting during which families learn about the program and fill out enrollment paperwork. If possible, we take a tour of the Opera House as well. The Youth Opera music director will also want to hear you sing. No need to prepare in advance - we will teach you the music. This is not an audition! Maestro will place you into a chorus level that is just right for you.
Do I need to register for an Information Session?
Pre-registration is not required, but strongly encouraged so we can ensure an adequate supply of materials and refreshments. To register, email youthoper@sarasotaopera.org or call 941-366-8450 ext. 249 with the following information:
- Parent and/or guardian name(s)
- A phone number and e-mail address you can be reached at
- The Name, age, and grade of your singer(s)
- Your singer(s) current school
What should I bring?
Interested singers do not need to bring anything to the information session. Sarasota Youth Opera will provide all materials. Parents will fill out enrollment paperwork during the first session; at that time the $25 enrollment fee will be collected via cash or check.
What if I miss my session?
email youthoper@sarasotaopera.org or call 941-366-8450 ext. 249. There is a possibility that you may still join the Youth Opera.

Our choruses meet on different days of the week:

Tuesday / Thursday, 5:30-6:30pm
Chamber Chorus (auditioned from members of the Full Chorus)
Tuesday / Thursday, 6:30-7:00pm
Preparatory Chorus Girls
Saturday, 10:00-10:45am
Preparatory Chorus Boys
Saturday, 10:45-11:30am
During the Fall semester, there are additional rehearsals for all ensembles to prepare for the full-staged Youth Opera production at the Sarasota Opera House.
Where will my rehearsals be?
All regular Sarasota Youth Opera rehearsals take place at the Sarasota Opera House located at 61 N. Pineapple Ave. Sarasota, FL 34236.
