Sarasota Youth Opera accepts enrollments in September and January. Interested singers may sign up to attend an Enrollment Evening. During this evening, singers and their families will learn more about the program and go though an easy placement. This is not an audition - all interested singers are accepted, regardless of skill level!
How much does it cost? Tuition is $150 for each term. A $25 enrollment fee is required with each new singer registration. Once the applicant enrolls, the deposit is non-refundable and is applied toward the membership dues. There is an additional $25 refundable deposit for a Youth Opera uniform that is provided to each singer by the Sarasota Opera. Tuition covers all other materials for the program, but does not cover the cost of any regional or international tours.
Can I apply for scholarship or tuition assistance? Yes, we offer scholarship assistance. An application will be available at Enrollment Night. Payment plans are also available.
What happens at Enrollment Night? The evening includes a short meeting during which families learn about the program and fill out enrollment paperwork. If possible, we take a tour of the Opera House as well. Our music director will also want to hear you sing. No need to prepare in advance - he will teach you the music. This is not an audition! Maestro will place you into a chorus level that is just right for you.
Do I need to register in advance for Enrollment Night? Pre-registration for this event is not strictly required, but we request that you register so we can ensure an adequate supply of materials to distribute at the meeting. Simply email your name, children's names and ages, address, and phone number, to youthopera@sarasotaopera.org, with "Enrollment Sign-up" in the subject of the email. What should I bring? New members will not need to bring anything to the first session. Sarasota Youth Opera will provide all materials. Parents will fill out enrollment paperwork during the first session; at that time the $25 enrollment fee will be collected via cash or check.
What if I missed Enrollment Night? Call 366-8450, ext. 545 - there is a possibility that you may still join the Youth Opera.
When will my rehearsals be? Each of the choruses rehearses on a different weekday evening.
Where do I go? We meet at the Sarasota Opera House located at 61 N. Pineapple Ave. Sarasota, FL 34236.
Do I need to join Youth Opera to take part in Project: Opera? At this time only Youth Opera singers and their families are invited to take part in the Project: Opera program.
I just want to join the Summer Workshop. We will not be holding Summer Workshop this year, but check back mid-February for information on next year's workshop.
