Job Title:                   Stage Management Intern

Reports to:                 Production Stage Manager

Works Closely with:   Stage Manager, Production Staff, and Select Music and Artistic Staff

About Sarasota Opera
Sarasota Opera, which owns its 1926 historic theater that was renovated in 2007-08, produces four operas in repertory from January to March, a Youth Opera production and opera in the fall.  Additionally, throughout the opera season, Sarasota Opera offers special events and concerts. 

Position Summary
The Stage Manager intern is a seasonal independent contractor who, under the guidance of the Production Stage Manager, will assist with the documentation, preparation and prompting of all rehearsals and performances.  They will also maintain a working score for assigned productions, and other duties related to stage management as assigned.

Duties may include but are not limited to:
• Assisting with the collection, organization and running of rehearsal props and costume pieces for the rehearsal room
• Standing in for missing performers
• Assisting the stage manager in running all performances - SL or SR responsibilities, cueing performers, giving calls, handling performance crises, etc.
• Creating sign-in sheets for cast and supers
• Generating and maintaining running paperwork for props, wardrobe, A/V and banda
• Assisting on or stage managing concerts or other special events

Position Requirements   
The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge and skills.
• Ability to read music well
• Excellent organization and communication skills
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Required Knowledge and Skills  
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented, and possess excellent organizational skills. Strong oral and written communication skills are a must.  Interest and/or experience in opera, repertory performance, arts administration, music and/or theatre production are preferred.

Winter Season: Jan. 3rd to Mar. 23rd, 2020

Weekly stipend, housing, and travel stipend are provided.
