The Gypsy Carmen is desired by many, but only she chooses whom she loves. This audience favorite returns for the first time in 12 seasons in a new production designed specially for Sarasota Opera. Carmen
Verdi's tour-de-force comes to our stage for the first time. Based on Shakespeare's drama, Othello, this is a tale of passionate love between Otello and Desdemona only to be undermined by a scheming, envious officer in Otello's army. Otello is presented as part of our Verdi Cycle: by the end of 2016 Sarasota Opera will have performed every note of Verdi's music.
