Sarasota Youth Opera members are taking their show on the road.
About 35 young singers, all members of the Advanced Chorus, will tour Sarasota and Manatee counties Tuesday, April 21. The group will perform for about 700 students at Booker Middle and Pine View schools in Sarasota; and Southeast VPA High School and Samoset Elementary School in Manatee.
Part of Sarasota Youth Opera’s mission is to bring opera to young people throughout the community. The tour is expected to reach at least 700 students.
The day-long tour is scheduled to leave Sarasota Opera House early that morning, with the first performance beginning at 8:30 a.m.
In addition to providing a musical experience that might be new to many audience members, the program’s Music Director, Maestro Lance Inouye, hopes to attract new members. Youth Opera is open to all young people ages 8 and up. Everyone who applies is accepted into the program. All that is required is the desire to sing and the time commitment for rehearsals and performances.
Placement classes will be held August 26, 27, and 28, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and a parent meeting will immediately follow the first placement class. All prospective members are expected to attend these classes.
