Do you want to learn more about the opera you are about to see this season? Sarasota Opera is continuing its tradition of presenting pre-performance introductions prior to select opera productions. These 25-minute programs serve to familiarize audiences with the music and plot of the opera they are about to see. The talks, which take place 45 minutes before the performance, are held in Felding Hall (in the back of the Donna Wolf Steigerwaldt Courtyard of the Sarasota Opera House) and are free to ticketholders of the opera that follows. Seating is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
Pre-performance introductions are scheduled on the following dates and times:
• The Magic Flute – Maestro Kristen Kemp, presenter – Sunday, March 7 and Thursday, March 18, 7:15 p.m.-7:40 p.m.
• Giovanna d’Arco (Joan of Arc) – Maestro Gary Casity, presenter – Tuesday, March 9, Thursday, March 11, and Wednesday, March 17, 7:15 p.m.-7:40 p.m.; Saturday, March 20, 12:45 p.m.-1:10 p.m.
• Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci – Maestro Marcello Cormio, presenter – Friday, march 19 and Sunday, March 21, 7:15-7:40 p.m.
The Sarasota Opera Winter Opera Festival, which also includes Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel, continues through March 21. Tickets for all performances are available now at the Box Office in the Deane Allyn Pavilion of the Sarasota Opera House, by phone at (941) 366-8450, ext. 1, or online at www.sarasotaopera.org. The box office is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and through the first intermission on performance evenings in the Lobby Box Office.
