Sarasota Opera, the National Endowment for the Arts, and opera companies throughout the United States invite the community to celebrate the joy of opera during National Opera Week, October 29 to November 7.
Sarasota’s activities will include the following:
• The Opening Night performance of La Cenerentola, Rossini’s version of Cinderella on October 29. This comic masterpiece was last presented by Sarasota Opera in 1969 when it was staged at the Historic Asolo Theater. This is the opera’s first performance at the Sarasota Opera House. Audience favorites Heather Johnson as La Cenerentola (Cinderella), Sean Anderson as Dandini (not a fairy godmother, but a philosopher), and Stefano de Peppo as Don Magnifico (her stepfather) will join tenor Hak Soo Kim who makes his debut as Prince Ramiro. Get ready to laugh out loud as you watch and listen to this classic musical story unfold. Sarasota Opera Artistic Director Victor Derenzi will conduct the Sarasota Orchestra. The opera runs through November 10 and tickets begin at $19. Call the Box Office at (941) 366-8450, ext. 1; stop in at 61 N. Pineapple Ave., or buy online at www.sarasotaopera.org.
