Studio Artists of Sarasota Opera and third-year students of the Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training will present Spoken and Sung, a program of highlights from The Crucible, Monday, January 24 at 4 p.m. in Felding Hall of the Sarasota Opera House. This program is one of the opera’s several free events to prepare audiences for the production of Robert Ward’s Pulitzer Prize winning opera The Crucible, based on Arthur Miller’s Tony Award winning play. First, the actors will present monologues and scenes from the play. Following each scene, the Studio Artists will sing the arias and ensembles from the opera. This program also will include a discussion comparing and contrasting the two performances. Admission is free, but space is limited. The Crucible opens March 5. Tickets for the opera are available now at the box office or online at www.sarasotaopera.org. Sarasota Opera Studio Artists are emerging artists who serve the main stage productions by covering (understudying) the principal roles and performing supporting roles. The Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training is a three-year graduate program culminating in a Master of Fine Arts degree. Students are provided with rigorous training in a professional theatre environment.
