Celebrate the Risorgimento with Sarasota Opera

Sarasota Opera will mark the end of its successful 2011 Winter Festival with a concert celebrating the Risorgimento — the movement that led to the unification of Italy 150 years ago. Set for Sunday, March 20 at 8 p.m. Sarasota Opera’s Artistic Director Victor DeRenzi will conduct the Sarasota Opera Orchestra and Principal Artists in a program featuring most of Verdi’s most popular works as well as rarely performed music. Selections will include overtures, arias, duets, ensembles, and choruses from Aida, Il trovatore, The Sicilian Vespers, and Attila among others, as well as the famous chorus from Nabucco, “Va, pensiero.”

Several area restaurants are joining in the celebration and offering special dinner packages for that evening only. Café Amici, 1371 Main Street, Sarasota, will be serving a three-course dinner, plus a bottle of wine per table for $30 per person. Call 951-6896.
