SARASOTA RUNNERS WENT THE DISTANCE FOR YOUTH OPERA

2ND ANNUAL DIVAS & DUDES 5K RACE WRAP-UP

Sarasota, FL – On Saturday, May 14th, 135 runners from all over the greater Sarasota area, ages 5 – 79, came out in droves to participate in the 2nd Annual Divas and Dudes 5K and support the Sarasota Youth Opera Program.  $3,000 was raised in registration fees alone!  That translates into tuition scholarships, transportation costs to concerts, music and uniforms, just to name a few.  Sponsors present the day of were Whole Foods, Jimmy John’s, Massage Heights, Inspired Gear, Juice Plus and More than Music DJ’s.  Prizes to the winning runners were provided by Gulf Coast Awards, Fleet Feet, New Balance, Fit 2 Run, Inspired Gear and Juice Plus.  All participating runners received a “Divas & Dudes” t-shirt and a goodie bag containing items from GNC, Fleet Feet, Chick Fil-A, Jimmy John’s, WhiteBerry, Massage Heights, Starbucks, First Watch, Bio Freeze and Aquaphor. 

The morning was made even more special when our Male Overall Winner, Courtland Bernard, paid special tribute to his Mom upon receiving his 1st place award.  His Mom, Janine Vander Clay Bernard, was a life long smoker who had quit only 4 months ago.  The Divas and Dudes race was her first 5K ever and she completed it in winning style.  Honoring her achievement, Courtland gave his award to his Mom.
