Overview

A world of secrets, lies and evasions lurks beneath an elegant surface in Samuel Barber’s Vanessa. An opera of intense lyrical beauty, Vanessa is the story of an aging aristocrat dreaming of love’s return, and her niece Erika, waiting for love to come. Into their lives enters Anatol, the son of Vanessa’s former lover. His presence reignites Vanessa’s past and illuminates Erika’s future; but to what end? This new production, designed and constructed by Sarasota Opera, will continue Sarasota Opera’s American Classics Series.
