The Opera Lovers Trip 2014 is a five star, five day, four night excursion to New York City that will include two operas at the Metropolitan Opera and a private concert!  We want you to come along!

What Will You See?

  • Giordano's Andrea Chénier at the Metropolitan Opera
  • Puccini's La bohème at the Metropolitan Opera
  • A Private Concert at Opera America’s National Opera Center

  • An exclusive backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera House
  • A  guided tour of the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • One of Broadway's best shows
  • Trupiano's Brooklyn!

Planning is ongoing, but we already have an almost packed itinerary for you to enjoy:

Day 1 Monday, April 7, 2014:
You arrive in New York and are greeted at our hotel, the beautiful St. Regis.  Unpack your bags, but don't snack because tonight our welcome dinner will be held at one of New York's premiere five-star restaurants (21 Club, Del Posto, or La Grenouille).  We will enjoy a decadent evening of fine food, good wine, great conversation with old friends, and getting to know new friends.

Day 2 Tuesday, April 8, 2014
This morning we will board our luxury coach and head for the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a guided tour of one of their fantastic collections.  Tonight we will gather for dinner at one of Lincoln Center's fine dining restaurants, and you will attend a performance of Umberto Giordano's verismo classic, Andrea Chénier at the Metropolitan Opera.  American soprano Patricia Racette sings Maddalena, tenor Marcelo Álvarez is Chénier, and baritone Želico Lucic is Gérard.

Day 3 Wednesday, April 9, 2014
You will have the morning to yourself to explore, shop, or enjoy a stroll in Central Park.  This afternoon you have the option of taking in a Broadway show (show to be determined) or a private backstage tour of the Metropolitan Opera.  Tonight is a special night.  After you return from dinner on your own, we will load our coach and drive the short distance to the newly built Opera America Center.  There we will be treated to a private concert by two of our favorite Sarasota Opera principal artists (artists to be announced) in the Center's state-of-the-art recital hall.  This concert is just for us and promises to be a wonderfully intimate evening of music.

Day 4 Thursday, April 10, 2014
On today's schedule is a trip into the wilds of Brooklyn! Sarasota Opera’s Artistic Administrator Greg Trupiano will show you Brooklyn as you've never seen it before.  We will explore the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and other Brooklyn attractions while soaking up Mr. Trupiano's unique knowledge of his favorite borough. You will have the afternoon to yourself before meeting the group for the quick ride to Lincoln Center.  Our farewell dinner will take place in the Grand Tier Restaurant at the Metropolitan Opera.  We'll swap stories from the trip and enjoy a wonderful dinner under the Met's beautiful chandeliers while looking out over Lincoln Center.  After dinner, we'll go right into the theater for a performance of the Met's lavish production of Puccini's La bohème.  This performance will feature the rising superstar Vittorio Grigolo as Rodolfo and the ravishing Italian soprano Barbara Frittoli singing Mimi.

Day 5 Friday, April 11, 2014
Today we say goodbye to New York and head home to Sarasota with Puccini's melodies still ringing in our ears.

The cost of the trip is $5300 per person and $6200 per couple, $600 of which is tax deductible. That cost will include: five-star hotel accommodations; full breakfast each morning at the hotel; three all-inclusive dinners at top Manhattan restaurants; tickets to all performances on the itinerary; admission to tours, museums and attractions; and luxury coach service in the city. Airfare and transportation to and from the airport and hotel is the responsibility of the traveler.
