What is the Venice Opera Guild

The Venice Opera Guild is an outreach and fundraising arm of the Sarasota Opera founded in 1980.  Through its affiliation with Sarasota Opera, the Venice Opera Guild is able to bring performers and resources to the local community, while also enabling community members to participate in Opera performances and other social and educational activities throughout the year. 

The Guilds objectives are:

• To do fundraising for Sarasota Opera. 
• To introduce the world renowned Sarasota Opera to the South Sarasota County and Charlotte County.   
• To support Sarasota Opera's Youth Opera Program in local schools.
• To promote public understanding and interest in opera.
• To give support to opera singers at Sarasota Opera by underwriting master classes, a vital part of a young singers education.

The Venice Opera Guild Offers:

• Afternoon music programs each month for Guild members and guests, followed by a tea.
• Bus transportation to more than 500 South County Elementary and Middle School students to see one or more operas at the historic Sarasota Opera House. 
• Opera Gala:  a costumed and staged concert performance by the twenty-four Sarasota Opera Apprentices, followed by a champagne reception.
• Bus transportation and discount tickets for members to see four Sarasota Opera performances.  
• Presentations of opera prologues for the upcoming opera season. 
• Fundraising programs called “Summer Music Salons” in June, July and August.
• Yearly fundraisers such as a fashion show luncheon and a card party with dessert and other social events.  

An Invitation

The Venice Opera Guild would like to invite you to enjoy fine music and make new friends by joining the Venice Opera Guild. Regular Guild meetings are held once a month from September through May and a tea follows each meeting.   Stars from Sarasota Opera frequently appear at meetings with programs that feature voice, instrument or ensemble performers.  Members also receive copies of the Venice Opera Guild's monthly newsletter, High Notes.  Guests and members of the public are always welcome at Guild meetings for a small donation of $7.00.
