Young people ages 8 and up who like to sing and act will have the opportunity to participate in Sarasota Youth Opera programs this spring. Sarasota Youth Opera, the most comprehensive program in the U.S. to introduce and involve young people in the performance of opera, is currently enrolling new members for the upcoming season. In May, some chorus members will travel to Orlando where they will perform at Disney World and other area venues.
Enrollment Night is a fun evening where kids and families meet the music director in a short one-on-one, take a tour of the Opera House, and learn music in a mini-rehearsal. (Singers do not have to prepare a song for this exercise.) There will be a parents meeting to go over specifics of the program, payment schedules, and other information. Prospective members age 8-13 will meet January 4, 6:30-8 p.m., and ages 14-18 will meet at the same time on January 5. Rehearsals begin the following week. To sign up for either of the enrollment nights, call (941) 366-8450, ext. 545.
Sarasota Youth Opera admits all who apply, regardless of skill level, providing vocal and acting training. Tuition is $150 per term with a $25 non-refundable enrollment fee payable on January 5. This fee will be applied toward tuition.  Partial payments can be arranged and there are a limited number of scholarships available. The Spring Session ends in mid May.
To sign up, call (941) 366-8450, ext. 0.
