If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, Sarasota Opera wants you! Members of the Sarasota Opera Corps of Volunteers are highly valued individuals who are essential to the day-to-day functions of our opera company. Whether in the administration offices, costume shop, front of house, or working as an usher, driver, or in production, Sarasota Opera has a spot for you!

Artistic Department Assistant

Artistic Department Assistant

Position Summary: The Artistic Department needs assistance in the copying and assembling materials for artists for use in season. This includes hard copy music, schedules and other materials. It also includes scanning and archiving these materials, as well as binding hard copy materials.

Artists' Driver Volunteer

Artists' Driver Volunteer

Position Summary: Volunteer Drivers may provide transportation for company members in the following ways: Transportation to and from airports, to doctor appointments, to outreach performances, and provide other transportation as needed.

Costume Shop Stitcher Volunteer

Costume Shop Volunteer

Position Summary:  Volunteer stitchers assist the costume staff with basic hand sewing, such as buttons, hems, labels, snaps, and trim appliqués. Volunteers also do embroidery, fringe work, and beading.

Costume Studio Data Assistant

Costume Studio Data Assistant

Position Summary: Assistance is needed in the rental area of the Sarasota Opera Costume Studio. Tasks include, updating the costume database, pulling data from internet sources for marketing activities, and entering data in the customer relationship management system.

Jonas Kamlet Library Archive Assistant

Jonas Kamlet Library Archive Assistant

Position Summary: Sarasota Opera is in the process of digitizing our archives of materials. This primarily consists of scanning and cataloging newspaper articles, reviews, slides, and photographs. This includes creating a database of the materials that are archived. 

Marketing Volunteer

Marketing Volunteer

Position Summary: Distributing Sarasota Opera marketing materials throughout the county is vital to the opera, as it brings awareness and information of our organization, season, and events to local residents. Volunteers will be given a list of locations of vendors/hotels/commerce/stores and asked to distribute marketing materials to them, as well as to report back the outcome of their trip.

Position Summary: To help the Development Department exceed in their goals and raise millions, we need warriors who will tackle our filing system! Responsibilities and duties included, filing donor paperwork and back-up information into appropriate file storage areas, and working on updating files into newly created filing system.

Opera Club Volunteer

Opera Club Volunteer

Position Summary: Attendants aid the Development staff in running the Opera Club as smoothly as possible. Opera Club Attendants make sure only members and their guests are admitted into the Opera Club and the associated private restrooms, helping to set up the room with food and drink, clearing the tables between intermissions, and doing basic clean up during the performance so the Opera Club is prepared for each intermission.

Supernumerary

Position Summary:  Supernumeraries are non-speaking, non-singing roles that help create a vibrant and realistic stage environment. No previous experience is necessary, but a passion for theater and willingness to follow directions are essential. Position Summary: Experienced docent to give tours of the Sarasota Opera House. Using a pre-written tour script, the docent would guide visitors through the lobby, theater, backstage, and costume shop.

Position Summary: Sarasota Opera House ushers work as directed by the House Manager to ensure the safety, comfort and enjoyment of the audience – our patrons. Sarasota Opera House ushers must: Partner with other ushers to ensure a positive work environment and a positive experience for patrons, treat patrons, staff and other volunteers with courtesy and respect, present a professional appearance – a positive first and lasting impression for our patrons.

    Youth Opera and Education Assistant

    Youth Opera Education Assistant

    Position Summary: Sarasota Youth Opera (SYO) Summer Camp is an opportunity for young people ages 8-18 to explore the exciting world of opera. Led by a team of seasoned professionals, this day camp delves into the elements that go into opera such as singing, acting, movement, costumes, wigs and makeup, props, and a final demonstration for families and friends and more. Since 1984, SYO has given thousands of young people ages 8 to 18 an opportunity to experience the joy of opera firsthand through participation in fully-staged Youth Opera productions, Sarasota Opera main stage productions, summer camps, and concerts throughout the community.
