Summary:
 Sarasota Opera, which owns its 1926 historic theater, typically produces four operas in repertory from January to March as well as a Fall mainstage and a Youth Opera production in October and November. Additionally, throughout the opera season a myriad of tours, special events and concerts are also produced. The facility is used year-round for arts groups and community events which are also a part of the position’s responsibilities.

Position Summary
The Seasonal Technical Director is an independent contractor who, under the guidance of the Director of Production, is responsible for the management of an IATSE crew of at least 16 as well as coordinating and facilitating the various technical needs of a four-show repertory opera season.

Summary:
 The primary responsibility of this position is maintaining the cleanliness of the Sarasota Opera Complex including the Steinwachs Artist Residences. They will also be responsible for helping set up for meeting and other events in the Sarasota Opera House.

Development Operations Officer

Development Operations Officer

Position Summary: The Development Operations Officer is responsible for all administrative aspects of Sarasota Opera’s development department, updating and overseeing the donor database, managing a small portfolio of donors giving between $75 and $600 annually, and assisting with the fulfillment of donor benefits for all giving levels. This team member plays an important role by providing administrative support to the development office and participating in all fundraising activities including donor identification, cultivation and stewardship, direct mail appeals, and special events.

Position Summary: The key responsibilities of the position are to sell and promote Sarasota Opera activities in an efficient and professional manner and to be thoroughly knowledgeable of all opera events. Must be computer literate, able to learn the ticketing software quickly and enjoy dealing with the general public.

Youth Opera and Music Administration Coordinator

Youth Opera and Music Administration Coordinator

Position Summary: The Youth Opera and Music Administration Coordinator reports jointly to the Youth Opera Music Director and the Director of Education and is responsible for the administration of the Sarasota Youth Opera program and provides administrative and project support to the Director of Education and Music Administrator. The Coordinator is a musician who also assists in rehearsing and coaching within the Youth Opera program.  

Staff Pianist/Assistant Conductor

The staff pianist will serve in various capacities as assistant conductor/pianist. These may include helping to prepare singers for their concerts, playing outreach concerts, backstage music staff duties, operating surtitles, and more. Specific duties will be assigned by the Artistic Director.

Pianist/Apprentice to the music staff

The apprentice pianist to the music staff will play chorus rehearsals for all operas and will serve in various capacities as pianist. These may include helping to prepare singers for their concerts, playing outreach concerts, backstage music staff duties, operating surtitles, and more. Specific duties will be assigned by the Artistic Director. This is a paid position.

Auditions

Apprentice Artists Program

Applications are being accepted now through August 24, 2021 for Sarasota Opera's Winter 2022 Apprentice Program. The program runs January 5 - March 22, 2022 and includes work as chorus in the Winter Opera Festival productions of Puccini's Tosca, Donizetti's The Daughter of the Regiment, Bizet's The Pearl Fishers, and Verdi's Attila. Participants will have opportunities to participate in masterclasses, cover MainStage roles, perform in concerts, and other performance opportunities, as well as receive musical, dramatic, and language coaching. 

This is a paid position and there is no fee to apply. Auditions are being held September 8 -13 in New York, Chicago, and Sarasota. For more information and to apply, please visit Yaptracker.

Studio Artists Program

Singers who wish to audition for the Studio Artists Program must have:

  • Career potential as an operatic soloist
  • Minimum of three seasons experience with nationally recognized young artists programs
  • Have performed a minimum of three substantial operatic roles with orchestra
  • Impeccable professional references (references will be checked)
