The Sarasota Opera Guild Member Bulletin
Sarasota Opera Guild’s objectives are to:
- Promote and increase the appreciation for opera in the community in conjunction with the Sarasota Opera Association;
- Encourage and assist young singers;
- Sponsor projects to raise funds for the Sarasota Opera.
SOG SPECIAL EVENTS
Throughout the year, Sarasota Opera Guild offers presentations and other educational and informative programs. Refreshments including wine and hors d'oeuvres are served at the social hour after the programs.
THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF MUSIC
Please join us for a special dinner event at the Church of the Redeemer on Thursday, February 5, 2026. Dr. Craig Wright, Professor and Chairman Emeritus of the Yale Music Department, will present a lecture on "Listening to Music - Why we like what we like." A discussion of why we respond emotionally to different types of music in certain ways focusing on classical compositions. The dinner will feature an international buffet including buffet including paired wines with a menu specially curated by noted food author May Bsisu, and Rosanne Martorella. General Meetings - Social and Singers
All are invited to attend these social gatherings to learn more about the Guild and Sarasota Opera free of charge. The Social and Singers are generally held from September through March, skipping December. Reception with refreshments starts at 10:30 AM, followed by a short business meeting, and concludes with a special performance by Sarasota Opera singers. Free.
Opera Prologues
Opera Prologues provide insightful background on the season's Sarasota Opera performances. The first of five Prologues begins on October 13 at 5 PM. (Please note the time change.) Donation for each session is $25, which includes wine and appetizers following the program. The next four Prologues will be held in January 2026.
