Wig and Makeup Staff

Position: Wig and Makeup Staff

The Wig and Makeup staff is a seasonal independent contractor who is responsible for construction of wigs and application of both wigs and makeup for Sarasota Opera’s 2022-2023 season. The season encompasses four main stage opera productions. The wig and makeup staff will be involved with all aspects of the operation of the wig and makeup department. Including preparation of the wig and makeup shop for the season, building / styling wigs, application of wigs and makeup for each production, wig maintenance and end of season strike. 

Youth Opera Coordinator

Position: Youth Opera Coordinator 

Job Description: The Youth Opera Coordinator reports jointly to the Youth Opera Music Director and the Director of Education and is responsible for the administration of the Sarasota Youth Opera program and provides administrative and project support to the Director of Education and Music Administrator. 

Props Artisan

Position: Props Artisan

Position Summary: The Props Artisan is a seasonal stagehand and part of the IA props crew. Additional work with IATSE Local 412 is available outside of the Opera season. We perform in “rep” style so night and weekend work should be expected. 

Bar and Concession Staff

Part-time Bar and Concession Staff with very flexible hours!

The Sarasota Opera House is accepting applications for part-time bar and concession staff with various shifts and hours. Schedules are very flexible and fit well with college students or professionals seeking additional income in an arts environment. A professional attitude is essential and previous experience is not a requirement. Primary responsibilities involve serving beverages and snacks in a friendly and professional manner. Additional responsibilities involve basic point of sale operation, minor set-up, proper break-down, and practicing safe work procedures. Apprentice Artists Program

Applications for the Winter 2023 Apprentice Program are being accepted now through August 20th. The program runs January 11 through March 26, 2023 and includes participating in the chorus of the four Main Stage productions of Puccini's Madama Butterfly, Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Verdi's Ernani and Massenet’s Thérèse. Participants will have opportunities to participate in masterclasses, cover MainStage roles, perform in concerts, and other performance opportunities, as well as receive musical, dramatic, and language coaching. 

This is a paid position and there is no fee to apply. Auditions are being held September 6 -13 in New York, Chicago, and Sarasota. For more information and to apply, please visit Yaptracker.

Studio Artists Program

Singers who wish to audition for the Studio Artists Program must have:

  • Career potential as an operatic soloist
  • Minimum of three seasons experience with nationally recognized young artists programs
  • Have performed a minimum of three substantial operatic roles with orchestra
  • Impeccable professional references (references will be checked)

Supernumeraries – also called “supers” – are background characters used to help create full and lively scenes during our full-length operas. These roles are unpaid; however, supers will receive complimentary tickets to performances for their family and friends.
